After putting an end to a murder streak that passed through Yucca Gulch, Sheriff Vincent Ford looks forward to the end of fall being more peaceful. But such hopes may be too optimistic. The local mine might be on the verge of a genuine gold strike, which would give rowdy miners excess money when they come into town. This possibility threatens to coincide with raucous cowpokes returning from the fall cattle drive with pockets full of profit. But before either of these possible problems can plague Yucca Gulch, and the lawmen who protect her, a far more sinister event demands all of Sheriff Ford's attention.
