One of the things I never expected when I started audiobook narration was how much each project would teach me something new.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on mysteries, Westerns, fantasy, science fiction, horror, philosophy, and nonfiction.

Every book has brought something different.

Some have challenged me with characters.

Some have challenged me with ideas.

Some have simply changed the way I look at a subject or a story.

That has become one of my favorite parts of this work.

As a narrator, you don’t just read a book and move on. You spend hours inside the story — getting to know the characters, understanding the author’s intent, and finding the right way to bring the words to life for the listener.

Sometimes a project surprises you.

Sometimes a character stays with you.

Sometimes a book leaves you thinking about its ideas long after the recording is finished.

That is something I never expected when I first stepped behind the microphone.

And it is one of the reasons I continue to love this work.
