Saturday, June 13th, 2026 — Today is National Sewing Machine Day, which somehow turned into an episode about rules.

Today’s episode looks at the Supreme Court decision that created the Miranda warning… the release of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and one of the most famous school-skipping adventures in movie history… and the discovery of ancient gaming pieces that reveal people thousands of years ago enjoyed many of the same competitive distractions we do today.

Plus, the birthday of Malcolm McDowell, an actor known for memorable characters who rarely took the easy path.

A lot of today’s stories ended up becoming about rules:

the legal ones,

the social ones,

and the ones people invent just for fun.

Anyway… that’s what I ended up finding while working through June 13.
