Friday, June 5th, 2026 — Today is National Moonshine Day, which somehow turned into an episode about people encountering the future before they realized what they were looking at.
Today’s episode looks at the first public hot-air balloon demonstration in France… Elvis Presley shocking and fascinating television audiences with “Hound Dog”… and the Apple II helping bring personal computing into ordinary homes.
Plus, the birthday of Pancho Villa, a revolutionary figure whose reputation grew into something much larger than history alone.
A lot of today’s stories ended up becoming about first impressions:
the moment something new appears,
the moment people realize the rules might be changing,
and the moment the future first comes into view.
Anyway… that was the strange trail June 5 ended up taking me down.
